"Nice restaurant. Food was all really good. Could actually improve on the "German potato salad" But the rest was really good. Atmosphere was basic, they do have outside seating too. Service was ok. Our server worked hard to take care of our 16 party group being her first big table."

"Lunch at Texas 1809 in Slaton, Texas, a welcoming local restaurant known for generous portions and classic Texas‑German flavors. Texas 1809 Restaurant in Slaton, Texas offered a relaxed, rustic atmosphere paired with outstanding, authentic German cuisine. The Jägerschnitzel instantly transported me back to the gasthaus I frequented years ago while stationed overseas in Germany. Kaitlin was delightful—her recommendations were spot on, and she seemed to appear at just the right moments to ensure we fully enjoyed our luncheon. Truly exceptional food and service from start to finish. Ask for Kaitlin"

"We chose this restaurant because I had never had a schnitzel before & have seen them in german street food videos on YouTube. So I ordered the Jaggerschnitzel, which was topped with a traditional mushroom gravy & I really enjoyed it! I think it was a bit overdone because the breading was slightly burnt but I have never had one so I don't know if that was intentional or not My sides were the mac n chz & sauerkraut, which both were great! My husband had the Ribeye (medium) with a side salad & the loaded mashed potatoes. Salad was really good it was not just a boring side salad & the loaded mashed potatoes were really yummy!!! His steak was definitely rare not medium (it was blue) & it was really chewy. I imagine the chewiness came from not being cooked long enough. (He is a firm believer in not sending anything back unless the kitchen is in full view, for those wondering why he didn't send it back.) But the pretzel.... CHEESE AND RICE that dang PRETZEL!!!! Just so so yummy!! I gave atmosphere a 4-star because we really couldn't even enjoy our meal due to the unbelievable amount of flies. I know something like flies can't be controlled but geez have someone grab a fly swatter & start killing the 15 flies that were at the front door at least. (And for this saying they don't want dead fly guts in their food, that's why I said for them to just kill them by the door because it's far from any tables.) If it wasn't for the flies the atmosphere would have absolutely been 5 stars because it is just really cozy and so cute in there! Just the exact definition of a small town mom and pop local joint that several have tried to recreate in movies. Service!! If I could give service 357 stars I would! We will be back because I want to try other things on the menu & of course I'll have the pretzel again! I do recommend you go try this restaurant because it was worth the 1 hour drive for us to get there"

"Texas 1809 in Slaton serves up a solid fusion of Texas comfort and German tradition—mostly. I ordered the Jäeger Schnitzel and the wife went with the Chicken Fried Steak—a tale of two gravies, and both were winners. The schnitzel was well done, with a rich mushroom gravy that hit the mark. The chicken fried steak? Solid. And the white gravy was a standout—thick, peppery, and exactly what it should be. Where things went off the rails was the German sidecar: The sauerkraut was begging for caraway seeds—none to be found. The red cabbage had no sweetness or balance—just red and vinegary. The potato salad was warm but way too heavy on the vinegar, with no creamy or mustard-style sauce to save it. That said, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere felt right—rustic charm with small-town hospitality. A good stop, but I'd skip the German sides next time and enjoy the vibe."
